Just curious, what program did you use to make these? I want to do that for the Calif. Figure Do you have the component locator table? Simply a more sober update on the original fun-fi lled Frogeye, the new cars featured fi xed front wings with a separate bonnet, instead of the novel fl ip-up front end on the original Sprite, plus they also boasted a proper boot with its own lid at the stern.

These springs were mounted to the underside of the bodyshell, just behind the front seats, putting quite a strain on the body, with only old-hat lever-arm dampers for company. The new cars still featured the very precise rack-and-pinion steering, though. The next major change came as early aswhen the more powerful cc engine was adopted for both models, together with an improved baulk-ring synchromesh gearbox and front disc brakes, to rein in the 56bhp.
The engine remained the cc unit, but this was strengthened with wider diameter main bearings for a longer service life. The rear suspension saw the original quarter elliptic leaf springs replaced by semis, to improve the coarse ride sort ofalthough purists reckon the handling suffered as a result.
An improved hood design and a bigger cockpit aperture also featured on the Mk3. The cc models were slowly improved during the 60s, with a higher-geared differential from October on, for more relaxed motorway cruising — well, again, sort of!
The advantagehere was that wider wheels could be fi tted to customise the cars if desired. However, this only lasted for a couple of years, before the most radical change to the design occurred, in October The old-style square arches returned because they made the car better protected against rear impact, as dictated by US legislations, apparantly. However, it gave slightly less power than in the Spitfi re, due to its installation — just to compound matters and rankle MG devotees perhaps?
Finally, Leyland then added a wider ratio Morris Marina gearbox into the mix. The Midget always lacked continual development and improvements its in-house rival rom Triumph seemed to have lavished on it, but matters improved a bit when head restraints, inertial seat belts, two speed wipers and a radio console were introduced inwith dual-circuit braking the following year.
The last Midget rolled off the production line a year later, in Decembera shadow of its former self. Uglier and heavier than the lean and mean eager little sportster of the start of the decade, it was a sad ending to a great little car.
If you want to savour sports car motoring how it used to be in its most basic form back in the s, then it has to be with a Midget or Sprite. Comparisons with its deadliest rival — the dreaded Triumph Spitfi re — are inevitable, but really it all came down to image and the Midget was generally considered more manly than the sissy Spitfi re!

Please be specific though, as to what exactly about the makes it an unsuitable, or a very suitable, platform for performance enhancements, and, what are these enhancements, i. Who makes the best pistons to increase the compression of our lower compression smog motors, without having Keith Black make custom pistons, which cost more than the entire car did, etc??? There are many many of us out there who have 's and would like to make them better, quicker, more powerful, more reliable, etc, so we do not get run over on the highway, but are not schooled on the pros and cons of performance enhancements for the Most of us also do not have a wallet of a sponsored racing team, and do not live near Hap, so exotic enhancements are not going to be likely for most of us.

From what I've read, you can gain about 20 hp just by changing the pistons to the Euro style flat tops. I've built a few SCCA limited prep for a couple of Spitfire drivers, we used the Rick Cline recipe, meaning TR6 piston and decked a bunch off the block to get to zero deck, which get close to the rear core plugs, but would so less on a street egnine, then we decked the head.
I think the wahy to do this for a street engine would be use the TR6 pistons, leave the deck height more conservative, say about. Now decking the block on a this much will get rid of the head gasket depressions, but that not such a bad thing, you would now use the head gasket and same bore different strokes The STD.
TRP piston is a. One fo the cheap thing BL did with the was run the cam on the block without cam bearing, it was all about cost saving, but when they did this they simple made the camshaft journal larger to accomondate the block, so you can use cam bearings, and a cam to get a with cam bearings, I done this several times, it's work greeat.
The thrust bearing issue with the car can easily be avoided, if people won't sit at stop signs and red lights with the car in gear and their foot on the clutch, on the race engine we never even worry about, because we don't sit around with our foot on the clutch. I think the Midget street crowd has now been around long enough to start tweaking their cars, and when they serious about, these will be without a doubt the fastest of street midget as for HP.The first version, announced at the end of June was essentially a slightly more expensive badge-engineered version of the MkII Austin-Healey Sprite deluxe version.
The original 'frogeye' Sprite had been introduced specifically to fill the gap in the market left by the end of production of the MG T-type Midget as its replacement, the MGA had been a significantly larger and more expensive car with greater performance.
Many existing MG buyers turned to the Sprite to provide a modern low-cost sports car and so a badge-engineered MG version reusing the Midget name made sense. The new Midget differed from the Sprite only in grille design, badging, improved interior trim, better instruments and added external polished trim to justify its higher price.
Mechanically the car was identical to its Austin-Healey counterpart, retaining the rear suspension using quarter-elliptic leaf springs and trailing arms from the 'frogeye'. A hard top, heater, radio and luggage rack were available as factory-fitted extras.
The doors had no external handles or locks and the windows were sliding Perspex side-screens. A heater was an optional extra. Production was 16, of the small-engined version and of the A fuel consumption of Externally the main changes were to the doors, which gained wind-up windows, swivelling quarter lights AKA wing windowsexternal handles, and separate locks. The windscreen gained a slight curvature and was retained in a more substantial frame. The hood US — topthough modified, continued to have a removable frame that had to be erected before the cover was put on.
The rear springs were replaced by more conventional semi-elliptic types, which gave a better ride. A total of 26, were made. A reduced compression ratio of 8. The Midget used the 12G cylinder head casting that was common to other BMC cars, whereas the Cooper 'S' had a special head with not only larger inlet, but also larger exhaust valves; however, these exhaust valves caused many 'S' heads to fail through cracking between the valve seats.
The detuned engine was used for reasons of model range placement — with the Cooper 'S' spec engine, the Midget could have been faster than the more expensive MGB. The hydraulic system gained a separate master cylinder for the clutch. The hood was now permanently attached to the car, with an improved mechanism making it much easier to use.
In late model yearUS-spec cars received several safety additions: a padded fascia dashboard with smaller main gauges, collapsible steering column, scissor-type hood hinges, a third windshield wiper, additional side marker lights, and anti-burst door latches.
This increased final drive ratio gave better fuel economy. Minor facelift changes were made to the body trim in late model yearwith the sills painted black, a revised recessed black grille, and squared off taillights as on the MGB. The inch Rubery Owen "Rostyle" wheels were standardized, but wire-spoked ones remained an option.
Both fitted with either X13 Crossply tyres or HR13 Pirelli Cinturato CA67 These revised cars were initially presented with matt black-painted windscreen surrounds but this proved very unpopular and after only a few hundred had been built the Midget reverted to the original brushed alloy. Seven months into the model year, oversized rubber bumper blocks, nicknamed "Sabrinas" after the well-endowed British actresswere added to the chrome bumpers to meet the first US bumper impact regulations. Many consider the round-arch Midgets with chrome bumpers produced for model years to be the most desirable.

This was not welcome especially after the more reliable A series engine. These initial matters aside the was a sales success with examples being made between andand today they remain a favourite, not least from their still sensible values to buy and maintain.
